Carnival Cruises from New Orleans
|
Ships in Market: Carnival Conquest, Carnival Ecstasy, and Carnival Triumph
Cruise Season: Year Round
Itineraries: 3 & 4 night Bahamas, 7 night Western Caribbean, 7 night Eastern Caribbean
Highlights: Very good prices; great Western Caribbean itineraries; very good food; outstanding kids program; good adults-only areas.
Drawbacks: Can be very crowded in high-season; the private islands featured on Disney and Royal Caribbean make for better Bahamas itineraries than Carnival.

NCL Cruises from New Orleans
|
Ships in Market: Norwegian Spirit, Norwegian Star
Cruise Season: October thru early-April
Itineraries: 7 day Western Caribbean, 13 day Transatlantic
Highlights: The itineraries tend to include very good ports of call; Great Stirrup Cay, NCL's private island, is featured on many itineraries; NCL's children's program is well-regarded.
Drawbacks: Some complaints that lower-category (cheaper) cabins tend to be small; Freestyle Cruising (dine anywhere, anytime) works well with parties of up to 5 or 6, but, parties of 7+ can find it difficult as many of the tables are not set up for larger groups; Given that NCL is only in the market on a seasonal basis, and, offers 3, 4 and 7-night itineraries with 1 ship, you must select your vacation date carefully to ensure they have the itinerary you want when you want to cruise.
